Brief History of JCWSS: Jatson Chumig Welfare Special School
In 1993, the government granted us the permission to open the school and orphanage. The girls and boys each have their own dormitory (which were completely rebuilt in 2011 / 2012). Both dorms have "house mothers" who care for the children and make sure the buildings are kept clean and in great shape. There is a cafeteria, washing rooms, bathrooms and a playground built in 2016 for the students to use. The school also provides an on-site medical clinic, as well as special machines to be used in therapy for the physically challenged students.
The Orphanage is situated in the main city of Lhasa, about two kilometers behind the Potala Palace. Lhasa is a city with an abundance of natural resources, rich culture, and is politically, socially and technologically developed. It is also one of the most popular tourist places in the world. Lhasa is an ever-changing city, beautifully surrounded 360 degrees by snow-capped mountains. It is rich in culture and filled with wonderful, beautiful people. Lhasa has great hotels with many choices to fit anyone's needs and also has many restaurants catering to anyone's palette from around the world. Lhasa also has many tea houses and coffee shops (some of the very best in the world). Any visitor, from anywhere in the world, will be amazed by what they discover in Lhasa.
There are thousands of orphaned, handicapped and poor people struggling hard for their livelihood. Most of them are in remote areas and poor villages. They face mental and physical problems coping with the outside environment. Keeping their hardships and hurdles in mind, we established this institution with educational and accommodation facilities and also to give vocational training by building the handicraft workshops. Until now, the family who runs this institution has tried their level best to meet the needs of the members of this school, but we need your help to remain a success for all Tibetans.
Jatson Chumig Orphanage celebrated its 25th Anniversary (2018).
This website has been setup to help inform the world of the work being done in Lhasa to help these children. 2019
