Brief History of JCWSS: Jatson Chumig Welfare Special School
In 1993, the government granted us the permission to open the school and orphanage.
The Orphanage is situated in the main city of Lhasa, about two kilometers behind the Potala Palace. Lhasa is a city with an abundance of natural resources, rich culture, and is politically, socially and technologically developed. It is also one of the most popular tourist places in the world. Lhasa is an ever-changing city, beautifully surrounded 360 degrees by snow-capped mountains. It is rich in culture and filled with wonderful, beautiful people. Lhasa has great hotels with many choices to fit anyone's needs and also has many restaurants catering to anyone's palette from around the world. Lhasa also has many tea houses and coffee shops (some of the very best in the world). Any visitor, from anywhere in the world, will be amazed by what they discover in Lhasa.
Jatson Chumig Orphanage celebrated its 25th Anniversary (2018).
This website has been setup to help inform the world of the work being done in Lhasa to help these children. The future promises to be wonderful and we invite you see some of the great products being made at the JATSON CHUMIG HANDICRAFT WORKSHOPS
on-site in Lhasa. These workshops employ many handicapped workers who make wonderful products & the selling of these items helps the running of the orphanage. All profits from the Jatson Handicraft Workshops in Lhasa, along with contributions from others, go directly to support the children living at Jatson Chumig Orphanage in Lhasa, Tibet - PRC.
Many positive things have happened, especially with the Jatson Chumig Handicraft Workshops. The recent construction of new workshops; papermaking - bootmaking - incense making and clothing making is completed. On top of these new handicraft workshops are the new apartments for the most severely handicapped Jatson Chumig employees who work downstairs in the workshops.
