Our Wish List

Jatson Chumig School ~ Lhasa, Tibet

                                    The Jatson School Bus/Van

We are very fortunate to have received a large donation ($25,000) so that Jatson Chumig could buy a vehicle to transport their middle and high school students to and from school every day. These kids battle the elements; weather, traffic, and a series of obstacles, just to get themselves to school and back to Jatson Chumig. It takes them just under an hour to walk, then walk back to Jatson for lunch, then walk back to school for afternoon classes and finally another walk home again in the early evening. This is almost four hours of walking each day. A school van/bus is expensive, and many thanks to Rick, Kim & Sunny for making our Big Wish come true!

Electric Heaters

An immediate goal (before the winter of 2007) was to purchase electric heaters for each dorm room where the children sleep at night. We wanted to get these as soon as possible as winter had arrived and night time temperatures get extremely low. The cost of each electric heater was 1,800 Yuan or about $240 USD each. We are so happy that individuals donated these heaters.

Many Thanks to Kaye T. from Western Australia, Bancroft School & BJM.
This dream has been fulfilled! The children now have elecrtic heaters to battle the long cold months that lie ahead. Bring on the COLD. ... We  finally have the HEATERS we needed to stay warm during winter nights!

Complete Uniforms (Summer & Winter) for every child have been donated  by the Collette Foundation. Collette has become a new partner with Jatson Chumig .  We are very excited about this new partnership and look forward towards many great projects in the coming years.

New English Grammar Books

We need new English Grammar Books. The workbooks we use are "disposable workbooks" meaning, they are meant to be written in, but should be replaced every year. The children are using the same workbooks and are passing them down from class to class.   The cost of each new English Grammar Books is $12.95 USD. This price is the same for each book for every student in each grade. CLICK HERE to see an example of the book. Books will be ordered for each class. Phonics, Spelling, Grammar, ... workbooks!

$12.95 per book. You decide how many books you want to buy.
This item is left blank for you to fill-in.
  • Class I students  =  14 ................ x $12.95 = $181.86

Sponsor A Child

The "Sponsor a Child" program is a wonderful way to know exactly where and how your money is being spent. This program allows you to choose any child (or we can choose for you) and you'll know that all expenses for that particular child from food, housing, clothing, education and additional costs are being underwritten by you. You'll also receive photos of the child you're sponsoring as well as letters from her/him throughout the sponsored school year.
The Monthly Sponsor-a-Student Program is $50 USD per month.

$50/month
For less than $1.65 [one dollar sixty-five cents] a day ... you can sponsor a Jatson child. Think how much you spend on a single cup of coffee or tea, everyday?
$1.65/day x 365 days = $602.25

Now you can make $50/month payments which is an easy way to become a sponsor of a JCWSS student. This is the easiest way to sponsor a child with your credit card being billed $50/month. You decide when to stop, or payments automatically stop after 12 months.

Teacher's Salary

We need to increase our total overall revenue because we have to pay our teachers better. Right now, the teachers at JCWSS get paid 700RMB a month (about $100 USD/month). Tenzin Choedon has said; "I am afraid if I can not pay them more, they might leave the school and we would have no teachers available to teach." In order to increase their salaries, and the house mother salaries as well, JCWSS has to increase its revenue. We are trying to do this by increasing the sale of the items made in our handicraft workshops as well as other fundraising projects. A donation to our general operating budget will allow us to give a pay raise, which they've never had, to our teachers, house mothers and handicraft workers. These three groups of people are vital to the continued success of JCWSS.

Double a Teacher's Monthly Salary for $100.

Facility Repairs

Although constructed in 1998, our facility needs repair. Again, any donation to the general operating budget will allow us to repair cracks and leaks in the classrooms and dormitories. We would also be able to repaint areas which currently are looking bad because of peeling and cracking and finally, we would love to repair and add more plumbing for toilets and showers, this is our biggest health concern at JCWSS.
Physical Plant Repairs = $1,000 USD

Our Capital Campaign

One must dream big in order for big dreams to come true. In the Spring of 2009, Jatson Chumig Educational Corporation, in conjuction with Lhasa Jatson Chumig Welfare Special School in Lhasa, Tibet ~ P.R. China launched a campaign to raise the funds to build two new dormitories, one new medical clinic and to renovate the classrooms. The Flash Presentation called THE JATSON STORY explains our campaign and there are other links for you to donate directly to this. However, it remains on our Wish List, because we believe this to be our biggest wish, to create more space, clean space, a sanitary environment, one which offers medical care for the children and classrooms who are promote a complete learning environment. Become a part of this dream, make a donation towards our capital campaign and help us rebuild a new Jatson Chumig, one for the 21st Century for the children who call this SCHOOL and HOME.

When a dream takes hold of you, what can you do? You can run with it, let it run your life, or let it go and think for the rest of your life about what might have been.  I prefer to run with this dream and help create an incredible future for these children.

Donate For Someone Special

As you can see ... our Wish List ranges from uniforms to dormitories ... [and there's more], but step-by-step, we can accomplish these goals with continued support from people who believe in our mission of providing housing, education and care for the orphaned and disabled children of Tibet. We hope you consider making a donation to help support our cause.

Thank you,
