Mission Statement:

The Lhasa Jatson Chumig Welfare Special School is located in the center of Lhasa, Tibet. Established in 1993, the Jatson Chumig School accepts orphans and the physically challenged as well as children from poor families. Jatson Chumig children are given a stable environment, a great education, and the opportunity to someday give back to their communities. Moreover, this special school fills a large, empty place in the children's lives, creating one big loving family in a wonderful place in which to live.

As of September, 2007, we have 145 children who call Jatson Chumig ~~~ home. There are also staff members; Accountant. Cooks, Shopkeeper, etc... We also have a group of very dedicated teachers and our house mothers, who live in the dormitories taking care of the children when not in school.

We also employ over 60 people who work in the Jatson Chumig Handicraft Workshops and create authentic Tibetan goods. Most of our employees are physically handicapped and this employment opportunity teaches them job skills and continues the ancient art of Tibetan craft making.

Jatson also provides the basic necessities of human life; such as food, shelter, and clothing, given by the school without asking a single penny in return.

Brief History of JCWSS:

In 1993, the government granted us the permission to open the school and with the help and hard work of our community, we were able to develop a large school. We offer three dormitories with house mothers, a restaurant, a shop, washing rooms, bathrooms, etc. for the students. The school also provides an on-site medical clinic, as well as special machines to be used in therapy for the physically challenged students.

The School is situated in the main city of Lhasa, Tibet. Lhasa is a city with an abundance of natural resources, rich culture, and is politically, socially and technologically developed. It is also one of the most popular tourist places in the world. However, due to not interacting with the outside world in the past, we have not kept up with the economic and technology changes in other countries.

There are thousands of orphaned, handicapped and poor people struggling hard for their livelihood. Most of them are in remote areas and poor villages. They face mental and physical problems coping with the outside environment. Keeping their hardships and hurdles in mind, we established this institution with educational and accommodation facilities and also to give vocational training by building one handicraft factory. Until now, the family of this institution has tried their level best to meet the needs of the members of this school, but we need your help to remain a success for all Tibetans.

Current Events:

Jatson Chumig is once again expanding. There is a need for more dormitories for our older students and to help supplement our rising costs, we are currently building the Jatson Chumig Home. This is a Tibetan Style Hotel, located on our campus, which will serve tourists and foreigners visiting Tibet. Soon, you will be able to link to see this fabulous authentic Tibetan Hotel/Home, however, it is not currently available (construction is in progress).  Check back to see when this will open.

The Future at JCWSS:

The future looks beautiful!  Our children are safe, happy and improving their lives everyday. Knowledge is Power and Jatson children improve their lives through education. Besides preparing the children in the classroom, we also recognize the fact that we must prepare our students vocationally to succeed as they become young adults. This is accomplished by the many handicraft workshops which help sustain Jatson Chumig Welfare Special School.

Our Handicraft Workshops and Jatson Home will only supplement our rising costs. We want you to know that your help, your generosity and your donations will allow us to continue to be successful. We offer the children a lifetime opportunity of education which can and will change their lives. We offer our handicraft employees an opportunity to learn valuable skills and continue the Tibetan Art of handmade crafts. Most of all, we offer hope ... hope to the Tibetan people. Jatson Chumig is a place of hope and dreams ~~~ you can help us in fulfilling this mission. Please consider making a donation to Jatson Chumig School.
