 JampaTsundhupDear Friends,

Once again, Tibet's doors are open to the world, however, most people can not make it to the roof of the world so we attempt to bring it to you. Everyone here at Jatson Chumig is well. We've withstood another blast of winter and are looking forward to the new seasons, as well as visitors and volunteers from around the world. We hope you enjoy reading the lastest news from Jatson Chumig School and Orphanage.

Sincerely,

Jampa, Tenzin and all the kids at Jatson Chumig!

The Jatson Bus/Van
Driving into the future

Jatson Chumig VanMany thanks to Rick and Kim B. from the USA who made an extremely generous gift of $25,000 to be used to purchase a new Bus/Van to drive our middle and high school students to and from school everyday. These children had been walking a total of four hours/day and are now being safely driven. This single gift ensures the safety of Jatson students as well as their renewed interest in attending classes everyday. Many thanks Kim, Rick and Sunny for your most generous gift!

It's a long answer because Ina first found Jatson Chumig back when we were beginning in the early 1990's. Ina's story is facinating and like all good stories, we should start at the beginning. Please read below, to learn more about our featured benefactor, Ina Mahlstedt

Spotlight
There is someone very special who has not been featured on the Jatson http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102535167022&s=4&e=001VlLqnd6DNz7cHMlWcoM56ABnxFsBious4n6bwgoDsLsNPHztermZah20AWABUAehUGxz5Hi_NTAXzdzh9QY1CZHrkLGcRh4sf-qWUbR4LbkDxiMKpPxZV6QZ7jjsc4F0PSG6fy9dE9g=Website. Although her acts of kindness for Jatson Chumig have been greatly appreciated over the past 15 years, it has been us - Jatson Chumig - who have not given her the recognition she truly deserves. Ina, we love you and all you've done!

Ina Mahlstedt first visited Jatson Chumig in 1994 and later when she returned home to Germany, began an organization called; "Kunsthandwerkschule Lhasa e.V." which translates to "Projects Arts and Crafts School, Lhasa."

Ina, and her team of volunteers, helps raise funds throughout the year in Germany for Jatson by collecting donations and by holding their biggest event; A Fashion Show, in which all proceeds go to Jatson Chumig. Starting every September, clothes begin to come in, used clothes; from a pair of Nike's to Mink Coats and everything inbetween. These used items are for sale, however the biggest event takes place in November, at Buthman's Hof in Fischerhude, Germany. All proceeds from the sale of clothes and the fashion show come to Jatson Chumig.  Ina's efforts in helping Jatson Chumig have made it possible for us to expand and be who we are today. We have grown since Ina first came to Jatson Chumig, from 35 children to our current number of 158 children. Much of our success, in large part, is because of Ina Mahlstedt.

Ina and friends, work incredibly hard in raising funds to help support Jatson. In the mid- 1990's, Ina's group was able to bank-to-bank wire transfers into Jatson Chumig's account of amounts of 1,800 USD four times a year. Beginning in 1998, Ina and her group began sending Jatson Chumig $4,000 USD four times a year and since 2002, they have regularly transferred $5,000 four times a year to Jatson Chumig & Orphanage in Lhasa, Tibet. Presently, between $20,000 - $22,000 USD are trasferred to Jatson's account at the Bank of China. Without Ina's help and support, Jatson Chumig would never have been able to become the success it is today. We thank Ina, and her team of friends, for all their work, their generosity and their love & support over these many years. JatsonAwardTo see Ina's work, Read More ...

Ina Mahlstedt is the first recipient of The Jatson Award.  This award exemplifies Ina's hard work and excellence in providing for the children who call Jatson Chumig ~ home. From Jampa Tsundhup, founder & director of Jatson Chumig to his daughter Tenzin Choedon, all the employees and especially the hundreds of Tibetan children you have helped over the years, we proudly present you The Jatson Award.
Thank you Ina ... for all your efforts over so many years.
Sincerely, Jampa Tsundhup, Tenzin Choedon and all the children.
